The campfire flickered it's gentle amber glow as a distant wolf broke the silence with his mournful sound. The old cowboy wondered what Mr. wolf would say if joined him round the fire just once to speak his piece...

WOLF

I've seen your tracks, you'll not see mine
I watch you where you sleep
I stroll among the hunters
In the mountains high and steep

I melt away in silence,
You'll never know I'm there.
I dream along with dreamers,
And give the nights a scare

I cross the canyon rims with ease,
And lay my track with care
I play among the pinion pine,
And shun the Prickly pear

I run through raging rivers,
And climb the highest peaks
I sit alone in summer rain,
And washed out little creeks

I Challenge every weakness,
I've never gone untested
I can steal away your courage,
I've never yet been bested

I live within the shadows
Hear my nightly songs
I was here before you settled,
I'll be here when you're gone.
