This country desperately needs more Westerns---& try to keep them in keeping with what was loved in the old Westerns; exciting stories with a moral; values; romance; living within the law; hard work & dedication to our fellowman. Westerns will always be loved & sell in America!!!

Westerns.. because people want to see heroes again. Some of those old westerns could be re-shot with modern special effects which would make the old west come alive in a way few can imagine today.

The stories of the old west enabled and assisted my generation to grow up realising the difference between right and wrong. We knew Bronco and Jim Hardy were on the side of the angels, and we loved the pure escapsism of the scenery and stories. More please.

The struggles of our ancestors, as the American Frontier was settled, shaped the character of the people who built this country into the proud, independent nation it is today. We should never be allowed to forget what they went through, so we can value what we have today, and remain strong, to keep it strong and independent.

Growing up on a farm & ranch in southwest Oklahoma you never see most of what movies are made about. I am proud to be a farm & ranch girl and to have values, hopes, dreams, and good old fashioned know-how.... We are anxiously waiting until the latest movies come out on VHS or DVD so that we can purchase and see Crossfire Trail and Monte Walsh. There is just something heartwarming about sitting down at the end of the day when the chores are done and seeing people that "blazed the trail" for you, so to speak. My great grand parents were part of the Oklahoma Land Run. We live a mile from their home stead. Life was tougher back then than it is now and the people were tougher but they had character and dignity that is hard to fine in today's world. Hollywood please hear our out cry when we ask for more western films to be made. There are some of us that still love the life style and still live it too. We are the ones putting groceries in your homes and clothes on your backs. We are also the ones that appreciate what you do when you make the western films and breath life into the American foundation. Think of it as not only a tribute to the way things used to be, but to the character that is sometimes lost today. Thank you

More Westerns, yes especially with Sam Elliott and maybe Clint Eastwood directing something real, poignant, not necessarily violent or existential. Or something tender and sweet as in Mary Steenburgen and Jack Nicholson (paired up again, please?) Grew up watching all the Western movies and Lone Ranger on t.v. so I got psyched to come out West.

Yes yes I would love too see more Western Movies made. My sister and I were raised on going to see Western movies. My Dad and Mom would not allow us too go to any other kind of movies. That was back when the other movies were not too bad.But each Saturday we were allowed to go and see the great Westerns, with Roy Rogers, and the other greats. I love all the Westerns that have been made over the years.and the ones that have been shown in the last few years. We need more, more more Quality movies. Tired of all the junk that Hollywood has out there now! Thanks for giving us the chance to express ourselves.

More Westerns are needed in our movie houses and on TV to show our younger generation that there is more to movies than violence and sex. The movie industry has done a very poor job of making any attempt to do this. You turn a deaf ear to society. It is all about dollars and cents. Thank you for letting me express my view.

Good western movies are needed to provide a variety of entertainment options. It is also necessary to pass on the medium to future generations. The values, culture, history of the western is part of our American heritage and should to be shared with our children.

We need more Westerns if only to be an antidote to the seemingly non-stop diet of "cops & robbers" churned out by the cinema & TV. The Western has been virtually ignored for too many years & consequently a lot of the knowledge & expertise has gone. But the only way to get it right is to start making them again & give it a try. The Western is still the best form of entertainment there is. Other than Tom Selleck & Sam Elliott, there aren't that many actors making Westerns these days, that ought to change. With a good story & screenplay & a good director, it can work. So I say to the film & TV studios, "Please give it a try".

Hollywood should use the great actors we have and create some fine western dramas with talented screenwriters. The western is not dead. The themes of the west can resonate with anyone. We have seen enough remakes, romantic comedies, and kung fu wire acrobatics. The viewing public would appreciate the creation of some quality films in the genre with the likes of Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, Lawrence Kasdan, Ron Howard, and Simon Wincer.

I've always been proud of the part cowboys have played in the forming of the [character] of man. A lot was given and a lot was learned about how [the pioneers] built this country. ...The stories and books on the life of folks that had a part in doing it gives a pretty good [understanding] on how it all came about. Only way we're gonna pass it on down is to document it with all the communications and informational sources we've got. I believe that motion pictures sure had a lot to do with that, so far. ...Wake up Hollywood, with all that information in the archives, let's dig it out and do something more on the lives and times of our cowboys.

Westerns combined the thrill of history, romance, and the age-old Good Vs Evil with all the shades of gray between. It can be adult in nature, or family fair. There are untold stories still out there, and classics to retell. And WITHOUT all the gore of modern action films, which I refuse to take the children in my life to see.

I have visited big cities like Toronto, Los Angeles, Detroit and I have visited small towns like Roswell,NM., and Prescott,AZ. In 1990 I visited Tombstone Arizona. It was a Sunday and vehicles where not allowed on the main western street. When I walked out on that western street I was struck in total awe. It was like going back in time to the 1880's. ...Given a choice of what I would like to watch I would choose a western every time. The old west was born in the good old U.S.A. and nowhere else on this earth was that ever recreated. Hollywood, don't let your country's heritage die. "Survivor" is a very popular series. Why couldn't one of the networks do a "Survivor" only patterned in the good old west. Let's get some good western theme movies into production...

Westerns are the best form of entertainment ever to be put on either the large or small screen. The "goodies" in the white hats & the "baddies" in the black hats, you always knew which were which. In a survey done a few years ago in a British TV magazine, readers were asked which old programmes they would like to see back on their TV screen. About 80% of the votes cast, were for various western series they wanted to return. The return of the western would also make a pleasant change for the seemingly endless diet we are fed of "cops & robbers", soap operas, chat shows etc. It does seem that most of today's actors can't play anything but 21st century characters, but then again, there also appears to be a dearth of people wanting to put on westerns throughout the networks. Oh for another David Dortort, Thomas Carr, Charles Marquis Warren or Nat Holt. It could just be that another "Dances with Wolves" on the large screen, or another "Young Riders" or "Paradise" on the small screen, could turn things around. It needs the Film Studios & TV Companies to be brave & bite the bullet & give it a try to change things. Something needs to happen fairly soon, before all the existing people with experience of working in westerns, aren't with us anymore.

as with john wayne, gregory peck, and others, whom we loved to see in western movies. we long for our heroes when their no longer around to make one more western. they take us to a time when things in life were cherished and morals were taught. we have a few of those heroes still with us -- sam elliott, clint eastwood, etc. I challenge movie producers to not let these great western actors grow old without using them in some of their "greatest roles". we need their movies just like we needed those who have already gone. please allow us the pleasure of watching our country's history unfold with our heroes.

"Open Range" featured beautiful scenery, great music, top actors, and a script must have been written by a rapper on a bad day. Ugh! not even one star [rating]. However,to those western fans who love anything with a mountain, cows, a horse and a hunk dressed in western garb says or does and loves to see blood and gore without a story this should fit the bill.

Bring back the "Old West" with all it's villains and heroes. The real life-where cattle barons owned all the land as far as the eye could see, cattle grazing on virgin hillsides, while stagecoaches traveled down those almost invisible ruts of dusty earth, where teepees and lodges turned into pillars from campfires glowing in the darkness, while the Red Man dreams of his early morning trophy hunt. Where life was hard but you had to adjust, sometimes not fair, but a time of neighbor helping neighbor, living off the land and being friends with your family, because sometimes that's the only human you might see for months. Where life and love walked hand in hand, in a land where both could end before the morning light.

America needs to come back to the times when right was right and wrong was wrong and there was not this gray area. Too many people I feel have so much leisure time that the simple things in life bore them. Bring back the westerns for our youth to show them that "Good Guys Do Win" and that if you make a mistake you are responsible for correcting it and not your parent's. Bring them back before it is too late.

Saw Open Range, and all other good westerns that have come out lately. Saw Horse Whisper with Don Edwards in our home town movie theater. Don gave a speech for the grand opening. Come on Hollywood make more westerns. Thanks TNT for your great westerns.

Westerns are an American tradition, a genre only we can share with the rest of the world. It is important that we continue to tell tales of the west, as it is our history and an important part of the growth of the United States. Whether it be a western flick for fun or for historical purposes, westerns can be enjoyed by everyone. Besides - what is more enticing than a rugged cowboy riding a stallion across some of the most beautiful scenery in the world? Keep the old west alive - there is a little cowboy in all of us!

The new Hollywood has done all it can to kill the Western by making trash and turning new would-be fans away. I was thinking the other day that if someone like Mel Gibson could make a quality big screen Maverick,he could even make Have Gun Will Travel work, and lo and behold this is in the works.    ...A big part of the success will be the actors chosen for these great parts. These were well written and directed tv westerns that lasted many years. They had a moral and they tried to use their brains before blasting away. Another one that would be great would be The Rifleman, But whoever would fill Chuck Connors shoes would have to be good. I hope and pray these come about. If done right they will be great for America.

I am a 67 year old dude who was born in OK. in 1936 and I remember when my Dad and Granddad both carried pistols. In my late twenties I worked on a 28,000 acre spread near Lycan in Southeast Colorado. My job was branding whiteface calves while the owner (he was 84) did the de-horning with a meat saw. His son did the vaccination and the foreman did the castration. I cut my first bull calf when I was 15 and it was not something I enjoyed doing although as mountain oysters they sure were good. I enjoy your online Western Magazine because you shoot for authenticity and I am probably the biggest fan Tom Selleck ever had. I watch "Quigley down under", Crossfire Trail","Last Stand at Saber River",and Monte Walsh at least once a week. No one living today can do a western like Tom Selleck and I predict that Kevin Costner and "Open Range" will be HO-HUM. Thanks for your Excellent Magazine.

Over the past decade or so, Hollywood has shown a marked trend towards accuracy in its movies that depict historical times/events. Yup, there sure were some rinky-dink Westerns in the past...the time has come to bring this genre to the standard it deserves. I truly enjoy a good Western, but have to scrounge quite a bit at the video stores to find something of quality. America has a rich history, so many stories still untold!!! With a realistic budget, unbiased historical accuracy, well-cast actors, skilled scripts....oh wow! We could be beating a path to the box-office in our boots'n'denims again!

Dear Hollywood, Please produce more westerns. They are a part of our history and reflect a way of living most of us no longer can relate to except through the movie industry. For most part they also reflect the morals and values of cowboys and cowboy life...which is good for our young folks to know and practice. So please, Hollywood, have a heart...the cowboys aren't dead...so let's not bury the movies! Please do make more westerns!

It's great when a new western graces the silver screen. From the look of the trailer of Open Range it promises to really pack a punch. What i don't understand is why does Hollywood (and this goes for other genre besides westerns)always fall back on the same storylines? How many films have been made about Billy the Kid, the Gunfight at the OK Corral, Jesse James, etc.? ....Westerns are about people and events. The west is full of them. Lets hope that people like Kevin Costner, Sam Elliott, Tom Selleck and their contemporaries continue to entertain us until a new generation realizing the true potential of the western takes us to greater heights. One word of caution, quick draws, though very dramatic are a no no. The audience has grown up. Shoot outs are fine, in fact a must, but quick draws should only every be performed in front of the mirror. Long live the Western.

I just watched the new Monte Walsh movie it was GOOD, good enough to stand on its own. I started out going to compare it to the original film starring Lee Marvin. I saw that there was no need for comparison...the New Monte Walsh is just a darn good film. I really liked the fact that in this western film women weren't called "whores" every 5 minutes and the Cowpunchers weren't riding "mares". I must say that the brawl where the cowboys and the railroad hands went to blows had me in stitches. Now i leave ya'll with a question...Who was the Bronc Rider in the original Monte Walsh movie that guy should be inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame...the gray in the original bucked twice as hard as the bay in Selleck's movie.

Please produce more western movies. It is important that America continues to be reminded of how our country got to where it is today. Although a movie may be a "shoot 'em up flick," there can still be a lesson of history and a sense of American pride taken away from the theater. True American heritage is still en vogue contrary to fashion, music, etc. Americana is, and will always be, hip and cool. Us cowboys will never let that die.

        Dear Hollywood, The western movie and TV show is as much or more American history and culture as apple pie. The astounding growth of the Cowboy Action Shooting in the last 20 years is testimony to the love of this period of American history. The Single Action Shooting Society alone has 50,000+ members and still growing. I urge you all to develop Western movies and TV shows that contain the true spirit of the cowboy way which has carried over from the old west in to the new. Yes, there were many bad times and bad people in those times but what has prevailed are the intangible values like 'truth, justice, honor, fidelity, integrity of character, doing-what's right, courage, perseverance, optimism, hope, faith in God and our fellow beings. Also, the popularity of TNT's recent movie Monte Walsh surely should encourage the accountants and stockholders that these types of projects are extremely profitable. Thanks for listening, Beaver Creek Bill {a.k.a. T. Scott Inman}

Think about this. "Wyatt Earp" did not do as well as "Tombstone", even though it was more accurate in the events that occurred. Why? Because Mr. Costner decided that making a western film with period correct saddles, holsters, coats and hats would not make a difference. It did and it will. And the funny thing is it doesn't cost anymore. As the president of the largest and one of the most respected Old West living history organizations in California, going to a western movie is more a comedy than an event [these days]. [Hollywood should] Do something real and worth while for a change.

Hello Hollywood. I am really tired of your standard movies coming out now. I think the American Western movie presents an opportunity to provide viewers with inspiring scripts. [The West] was inhabited by noble, free, brave, peoples; and settled by men and women of courage and determination, to whom the spirit of adventure and personal advancement far outweighed the possibility of their own demise. ...[They] took hard work and determination in the face of overwhelming odds, and personal tragedy as just a regular part of life.... They knocked the dust off their shoulders, put their hats back on, and got back into the saddle without a second thought. ...They were self-reliant and proud of it too, and proud of their country as well. ...These, dear Hollywood, are not myths; these are the facts that inspire myths and legends. Heroism was a regular part of life for these people, and not just the profound heroism, but the little everyday heroism which the world lacks so much of these days. Please bring back the American Western. Thank you
