Tom, It's been a long time since I've watched a movie that I liked as well as 'Monte Walsh'; I didn't want to go to the kitchen and miss a single minute of it. I had to watch it a second time to tape it, so I can someday watch it with my Grandchildren. You always put a lot into your films, and make them a joy to watch; I always look forward to your next movie. Thank you for being a part of my life.

As the rising sun has been given light and warmth to endless lands forever, so Westerns have enlightened the imagination of many children and grown ups as well. I think only so few lived in the West because only few tough people could handle it. But it is our duty to keep the good tradition alive!!! Mr Tom Selleck always delivers great westerns and he is surrounded by wonderful artists who make their movies particularly pleasant and entertaining.

I grew up on westerns and I feel they are the only thing that is truly American. More westerns are need because the youth of today are losing the most important thing we grew up with in the 50's and 60's and that was values. So please try to get more westerns on TV or at the theaters. Thanks, Donna & Mike (English Rose & Shanghi Mike SASS members)

The TNT movie "Monte Walsh" was so good I actually sat and watched it all three times it was on the premier weekend! I enjoyed your western movies in the past and it is hard to believe you are still getting better. The story was well told, the actors conveyed all of the emotion in each character so that I was drawn to watch repeatedly. The melancholy of the passing of such a culture of honor and brotherly love among the cowboys made the story moving, but the sudden deaths at the end brought tears. Thank you Tom, you certainly must have a heart of love for such folks and stories, because you definitely hit a bullseye with this role. When an actor is so familiar to me for other roles (especially Magnum) it isn't easy to be convincing in a new one. But you were Monte Walsh, through and through, as real as life! Thanks for putting your good heart to work in such excellent roles. Keep it up! I wish you much future success. God Bless you!

Listen up Hollywood. Stop making these stupid westerns "Dances with wolves, Wyatt Earp, American Outlaws, Texas Rangers" to name a few. The good ones "Unforgiven, Tombstone, Conagher, Lonesome Dove, Wild Bill (overlooked)" to name a few. Clint Eastwwod, Tommy Lee Jones, Jeff Bridges, Harrison Ford, Sam Elliott, Val Kilmer, Danny Glover, Blair Underwood, Powers Boothe, Brad Pitt, Brad Johnson, the Carradine Brothers all born to play western characters. Directors Clint Eastwood, Walter Hill, Simon Wincer and George Cosmatos made some the best in recent years.

As expected Mr. Selleck and his cast did an excellent job. When you know there's a western coming on TV with Mr. Selleck you unplug the phone and send the kids to a neighbors house! Great Job!
Editor's Comment: Unplugging the phone is a great idea, but why not keep the kids around and let them enjoy westerns too? We must spark interest in the western within the next generation. Keep the kids involved!

I think westerns bring back a time when honor meant something. All you needed was you word and it was more binding than a signature on paper. A lawyer was someone that wasn't considered unless you had a will or someother piece of legal matter to straighten out. We need westerns to show a simpler time, an honorable time.

Tom---I sure loved both Crossfire Trail and Monte Walsh. I've done some traveling, hunting and flyfishing in the West and have met some real cowboys. You and your cast have certainly captured their style and spirit in these new movies ! Throughout Crossfire Trail and Monte Walsh I kept telling my wife how realistic the cast, settings, accoutrements, dialogue and firearms were. Bravo to you on a fine pair of films; can't wait to see more !

Mr Selleck, I want to thank you for reviving the Great American Western! It's long overdue. Your newest western, Monte Walsh, is terrific. All I can say is, when will the next one be out, and can you get Brad Johnson from Crossfire Trail, to costar in another western with you? The detail in this movie was terrific! Right down to the firearms, and clothes the actors wore. I appreciate your attention to details. Thanks for another great western!

After reading the storyline on Monte Walsh, I was very excited to see the movie. As usual, Tom Selleck and company have successfully provided us with top quality entertainment, the caliber that we have come to expect from this outstanding artist. At the risk of repeating myself from my Dec. 9 comment, it is truly a shame that most of the really good westerns are "made for TV" movies only. Monte Walsh also typified my statement that: It's bad enough that ranching and agricultural life are becoming extinct occupations, don't compound this loss with ignoring the existence of this way of life by not making quality westerns. I applaude Tom Selleck for his perseverance in bucking the flow and showing Hollywood that Crossfire Trail and Monte Walsh is what the western-loving public wants. My thanks to Tom Selleck, his talent and choices, and his selection of really good people to make these quality productions.

Ordinary people cannot go to the moon, they cannot recreate the dinosouars, but we can always be cowboys, and we all want to. This country is known for Westerns. We have developed in less than 250 years from a wild land, to a land of great cities. But we never could have done it without the cowboys. And everyone at some time or another has envisioned themselves as a cowboy in the "old west". We need to remember the past, and to fantasize about it. We do that with westerns. I wish there were more out there to choose from. It seems that Hollywood is so into making a "great money-producing movie" that they have forgotten what started them in the first place. Real people with a dream to see what they want to see. We want westerns, we always have, we always will. They are a real part of our history, and our future, as well as our time now. How else can we realize a dream, even if its only for a short time on a vacation.

I am a huge believer in the Code of the Cowboy, it's how I was raised and how I have chosen to raise my three children. There aren't many movies made anymore that support the ideals of honor, loyalty, integrity and pride so much as a movie like MONTE WALSH. I owe those involved the greatest of thanks. Re: New Monte Walsh. It's not that I didn't like it or that I don't think Tom Selleck isn't a great western actor because I think he is great and I loved him in Quigley, Saber River, and others. It's just that I thought he was too young, vigorous, and un-gray to compete adequately with Lee Marvin for the role of Monte Walsh. Lee is Monte.

Not only have I been looking forward to a good western, but good acting. I look for authenticity, the animals they use and the care in how they use them in the films. Scenery, language and of course the plot. Montilious Walsh and his friends came out of a time capsule that locked horns. Old West meeting the new west. ...God bless Mr. Selleck and his family for being stewards of this earth's animals and making a decent film that you can proudly add to your family video library.

I appreciate Monte Walsh and you, Mr. Selleck in a way that I can appreciate no other movie.... He did it for the life; not many understand that simple concept. Watching the movie with my dad was a special time for us both. It reminded us that there are still others out there who appreciate the thrill of good horses, open range, and chasing a cow or two. You really can't understand a cowboy unless you've lived with one, and you guys came closer to anyone depicting the heart of the cowboy way of life. Like Willie Nelson "My heroes have always been cowboys". When I was a little boy I consistently traded my often "uncowboy" presents to other kids for a cap-gun, lariat, stick horse or anything cowboy. Fifty years later I began living my boyhood dream. I bought a horse, moved to horse country (my horse lives just out back), went to Wyoming and rode with members of SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) on the Outlaw Trail. I've held cowboy movie gatherings at my home, shown High Noon or some other classic and always had a full house. Make more cowboy movies, Hollywood. As the Stetson cologne commercial says "There never was a man that didn't want to be a cowboy".

MY WIFE AND I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED MONTE WALSH. IN THE FINAL SCENE WHEN MONTE JUMPS [his horse] OVER THE CAR WAS HE HEADED FOR MISSIONARY RIDGE, AS HIS FRIEND THE FENCE MENDER DID? JUST CURIOUS....THIS WAS AN EPIC TALE, THANK YOU FOR MAKING IT.
Editor's note: No, Monte was not headed for Missionary Ridge to do himself in. As Monte had said, he wouldn't spit on his life, so perhaps you could look at the jumping scene as a metaphor for Monte's way of overcoming the obstacles of progress, and from there he moves ahead with his life... for even today the working cowboy lives on.

Everyone else has said it so well, but I have to join in with my own, "BRAVO"!! The source (Jack Schaefer's novel), the production team and ALL the actors have created one of the finest evocations the American West and the passing of an era that I have ever seen. From my late grandfather, father and brother to me, Westerns are a deep part of a family tradition. I am proud to have grown up in the "golden age" of TV westerns, been around horses, and (thanks to my dad) been introduced to a couple contemporary Western artists in my youth. There were parts in Monte Walsh, though, that captured the essence of it so well I felt I was actually inside a Remington or Russell painting. A big fan of Will James as well, it just captured for me the cowboys' life as well as ol' Will did. Fantastic job, Tom Selleck. Keep it up. Nobody films the West as well as Simon Wincer. My wife & I agree (WOW): the only thing missing was Sam Elliott! Maybe next time. Time now to rewind and watch it all again. Thanks to TNT for keeping the Western alive and well.

I shoot with a CAS club in Alabama and we discussed "Monte Walsh" the Sunday before the show was to be aired. We all love our westerns and were watching "Crossfire Trail" before our shoot and decided that if it wasn't for Tom Selleck, westerns would indeed be few and far between. The period correctness of your movies is perfect. using a lever action shotgun in "Monte Walsh" was a classic touch. The Schoefields in "Crossfire Trail" are perfect. Please continue to make the period correct movies that we have all come to enjoy seeing you in. John Wayne with a '92 Winchester in "The Searchers" is a stretch but he still made it a great movie. I realize some people will not notice the weapons and clothes used in the movies, but you may be surprised to find out how many people do notice. SASS has been a great vehicle to the "Baby Boom" generation by allowing them to live their dreams of cowboys.

I have watched the original TNT movie Monte Walsh and in general I have enjoyed it. But it does bother me when firearms and their use are portrayed inaccurately. On at least two occaisions in the movie, when a person was shot, the force of the bullet flew that person through the air in the opposite direction. This is NOT possible with real firearms firing real bullets unless the shooter was flung through the air as well. Guns and gunfighting are plenty exciting by just sticking to the true laws of physics instead of dressing them up for TV. Just look at Mathew Quigley and you'll know what I mean. As a collector and shooter of real guns I am quite certain that Mr. Selleck knows this, so what bonehead screwed up and lessened my enjoyment of an otherwise good movie?
