I loved Monte Walsh the movie. Tom Selleck, Keith Carradine and all the other men were tops. The priviledge of seeing Isabella Rossolini in it was an added bonus. She is one of the most fascinatingly beautiful women of this century, and coupled with her marvelous voice she is mesmerizing. I hope she can be in some of the future westerns. I have seen all Mr. Selleck's westerns to date and have enjoyed all of them. I think he blends well with all of his female leads. And they have all been different in personalities and appearances. But, I think my favorite has been Ms. Rossolini. There was such a gentle sadness that they conveyed (I know it was in the script, but they did it so beautifully). I love old movies, and not all of them hold their flavor and become dated. I feel these new westerns will hold as well 20, 30, 40 years from now. Thanks and I look forward to future editions.

Congratulations for a fine remake of the classic western Monte Walsh. My first thought upon hearing of the TNT movie was " I hope they do it justice or ol' Lee will be turning over in his grave! " I was delighted to see the new version stayed faithful to the spirit of the first and only embelished on the details. And speaking of details, your props and sets are second to none for their realism! Bravo and keep em' coming!

What can I say... TS tugs at the hearts and souls of nostalgics such as myself once again. Monte Walsh AKA Tom Selleck (Ya can't fool me, big guy) are one and the same... men of principle and integrity. I would be honored to be stand in or be backgound noise in the next epic cowboy he produces. Thank goodness the tale of a cowboy is once again delivered first class.

Watching Monte Walsh just reinforced to me that I was born 100 years too late. This will be a treasured addition to my western collection for me and my family. Thank God for Tom Selleck--someone who hears and answers the "call of the west". I'm so tired of the same 'ol, same 'ol from Hollywood... Where are the movies that "entertain and relax" us? Where are the movies that sweep us away and take us to a special place? Where are the movies that make us feel good about where we've been and who we are? That's where the beauty of the westerns come in. ... Tom Selleck makes a western that you can go to bed and dream about, a place that you can feel a part of. ... He knows who to bring together to make it all happen and make it believable. .... keep up the good work, Tom. WE NEED MORE WESTERNS! You have so many of us that only wish we could live out a dream of being part of the "old west" as you can in the many roles that you've played. ...looking forward to your next western adventure.

Movies like Monte Walsh is what this country needs. An opportunity for a family to watch a movie together without all of the ridiculous violence, sex, and crude language--and right in the comfort of your own home! The Hollywood liberals will never get the message. They're too busy trying to destroy the memory of the good 'ol days and the things that made this country great! Bravo for Tom Selleck and the rest of the cast. Tom, you were at your best when you put Rosie O'Donnell in her place and you're still at it as Monte. The new John Wayne is Mr. Tom Selleck!

There definitely should be more westerns out of Hollywood like "Monte Walsh" or "Lonesome Dove". These had good themes and story lines that people could relate to historically; not a lot of sex and shoot-em up stuff! My sincere congrats to Tom Selleck on a fist class western in "Monte Walsh".

Great cast & Crew, scenery, and the authenticity of the gear and such. A big thumbs up to TNT and Tom Selleck. It does my soul good to enjoy a great story that is well delivered. I hope this will serve as a wake-up call that we need more Cowboys and Westerns!! AAAAA+++++ I really hope there will be more westerns in the works for Tom Selleck and Keith Carradine.

I used to watch westerns with my father as a girl and when I go home for holidays. I recently saw Monte Walsh and just absolutely loved it. I prefer movies with a sense of the west a taste of history, and capturing the last of out vanishing wilderness, This is the type of movie we need more of. To borrow a line from Monte Walsh...."good, It's good." But, too add my own dialogue.... great, it's great. Tom Selleck and crew have hit the bullseye. Tom knows westerns and what western fans want--authenticity. You feel like you have known the characters a long time and you like them immediately. Tom does such a excellent job of casting. Being raised on westerns:) I always keep an eye out for anything pertaining to the old west. I've seen all [of Tom Selleck's movies] and enjoy them all, whether they are westerns or not, but I love his westerns best! He has been a favorite of mine from the get-go of his career:) As for Monte Walsh, in particular, I loved the scenery (breath taking), loved the characters and their uniqueness each brought to the movie also. Tom Selleck remains one of my "favorites" and I don't see that ever changing:) P.S. One thing I often wondered about was how those cowboys kept their coats and pants and even boots so clean when they were out there in the dust and mud? Thought the clothing looked a little too fresh and new.

Tom Selleck does it again, Monte Walsh was great, the tradition of Crossfire Trail and Quigley continues! I cannot figure out why Hollywood does not make more western movies? Today cowboy action shooting is one of the largest shooting sports going on today with offshoots of repo western type guns, clothes and western accessories being sold at a astonishing rate. Us baby boomers grew up on westerns and like them and we are a large part of the population today and have money to spend why does Hollywood continue to ignore us? During the 80's and early 90's the Western was almost dead no thanks to Hollywood but now with the cowboy action craze going on it would be a perfect time for the reserection of the western. ..Tom Selleck's movies are Historically correct and appreciated. Thanks for letting me speak my peace.

... The only venue left today where the way of the Cowboy,Gunfighters and Settlers that helped to shape this country seems to be Western Films. Whether we like it or not it is a part of our Heritage and Past. It seems that many of the different types of Movies being made today are going in circles to find something Bigger, Better and more Spectactular than the last one. While I enjoy Special effects as much as the next Guy. And there is nothing better than a good Sci-Fi or a High Speed chase to keep you on the edge of your seat. But when the weekend comes and I have time to stay home and try to catch something on the Dish I always find myself searching for a Western. To me the western is entertaining for the whole family, it offers something for all. And with all the research of our Past History that is available today and infinite wealth of untouched material awaits us to create Great Western Movies. Thanks for the Forum to express my 2 cents.

RE: MONTE WALSH - I watched all four showings of this great movie. I'm addicted to it, I must say. How a man feels at mid life, continuing to do what he knows and enjoys and not wanting to change with the times is a feeling shared among many, I'm sure. Well....I not only don't own a horse, I really can't even ride one, and I live more or less "back East". Still, I love a Western film. It symbolizes something that is central to the American spirit. ...Nothing comes close to portraying the human condition in film like a good cowboy movie. No other nation on Earth has a rich culture to draw from as we do. Sadly, Hollywood prefers films with fast cars, automatic weapons, near total nudity, and plenty of bad language. ...Is the Western dead? No, it may be ailing, but it is far from dead. Now more than ever we need them. They stir something inside of us, something very dear to all of us, and something that is uniquely ours. If Hollywood will make them, I'll saddle up and ride out to see them.

Born and raised on a Texas ranch, my husband and I loved watching Monte Walsh. The authenticity of the westerns, like Lonesome Dove (unsurpassed), is so important when we watch. You just seem to forget that the actor is not really the character he portrays and Monte Walsh did that. Also, my husband, a true cowboy, made the comment that Tom Selleck rides as well as any actor he's seen, that he rides "without fear". You might like to further authenticate the set by having the pole corral (in the breaking broncs scene) have poles that are axe cut, not cut with a chain saw, and the saddle horn on the saddle when Tom rode the bay horse had a rubber wrap on it. Don't think they had rubber back then. These things might be trivial to y'all, but it's just a few things we noticed about the movie. It was a really beautiful movie, very clever and downright funny. Then right when you weren't expecting it you'd have your heart in your throat. Very good...please make some more.

I'd like to encourage Hollywood to make more - well done - Westerns. The "Western" setting is every bit as valid a setting for adventure stories as outer space or the inner city. Yes, I agree with a lot of the other commenters here that we would benefit from some of the good things about the Myth of the West being revived and promoted. I would support doing westerns with today's perspectives, with historical research: not ignoring the disenfranchised or glamorizing and glossing over the realities of the 'western experience'. That said, I think it ought to be able to be done tastefully though. Sure there was plenty of violence, etc. ... making for a real challenge to do it well. Producing programs that have a potential for character-building effects comes with a social responsibility. Thanks for this forum. Discussion of the past & our heritage (the West as lived by real people, and the West as portrayed in literature, music and films) is important. We learn from eachother to help us put things in perspective. An informed and educated audience is a real partner to the entertainment industry. Don't underestimate us nor take us for granted.

I enjoyed watching Monte Walsh very much. I also appreciated TNT's western weekend devoting the three nights to western movies. I am an avid fan of westerns, horses, and the cowboy way of life. Monte Walsh helped to portray that way of life once more. Tom Selleck plays a good cowboy. His characters are believable people, similar to the Sam Elliott westerns such as Conagher and The Quick and The Dead. Somebody in Hollywood should be paying attention I'm sure not every saga of the old west has been told.

The image and reality of life in the West has withstood the test of time and Hollywood for a reason. The settling of the west had more to do with with being true to yourself, family and friends than showdowns at High Noon. Movies like Monte Walsh, Crossfire Trail, and even tv shows like Bonanza have born out this truth. Quality is quality and that is what the mature movie audience deserves to see.

After watching Monte Walsh I'm glad to say that again Tom Selleck has brought the cowboy to life. A person has to appreciate the type of western he chooses to become part of. These are no longer the old shootem up westerns we knew as kids. But instead seemingly true to life westerns. The charcters, the tack, the clothing, the buildings and by all means the countryside all play a major role in the westerns he plays in. A word of thanks must also go to whoever chooses the other members of the cast. These actors are no longer someone that is put there just to help draw a crowd,(with no disrepect to the likes of Ricky Nelson, Sammy Davis Jr. or Johnny Cash and etc.)but instead seem to be actors picked to protray the part. For this I am so thankful. Thanks to all who brought Monte Walsh to us . Hopefully one day Hollywood will see the light and make many many more of these great classics. Yes I do mean classics, not just actors shooting and riding a horse.
