There is nothing better than watching a good western. I would love to see more of them on TV and on the big screen, especially ones that show how things really were. The west was an important part of American History and there are still many traditions followed today. Come on Hollywood, get with it, there is more to ratings than reality TV, cops and doctors!

Westerns reflect the best of American culture-character, independence, courage, freedom, and the willingness to stand up for what is right, regardless of the cost.We need these examples on the screen more than ever today, especially the youth of this country. It's high time we get some movies (particularly Westerns)that reflect genuine American values and ethics. Thanks.

Bring back the good ol' Western movies. There are no "real" heroes nowadays - even network TV programs are using language on a daily basis that would never have been acceptable in "the olden days" - gee, as far back as the 1970's! Hollywood sets the standard (unfortunately) by making four-letter words, gratuitous violence and sex acceptable or even "normal", and it seems as if every movie has to be even more "over the top" than the one before, just to be "real" or "normal". Why not start a trend back to the REAL American values and morals? Movies where a man doesn't have to use the "f" word in every sentence; where women aren't current (or former/recovering) prostitutes or drug users or both; where a shoot-out is the last resort, not the running theme. Please bring back the Western!!!

REcently I couldn't help but notice there seems to be a rise in how many new westerns have been filmed or will be released in the near future. Certainly more than the usual amount over the last ten years. Apparently Hollywood isn't ignoring the fact western can be profitable if done right but I think they had to first experiment some to find out what kind of new stories play well to today's audience and which fall flat. Let's hope they recognize the failures for what they are and learn from them. We don't need remakes from the past. We should be entertained with something fresh.

The image of the American Cowboy is the most recognizable and desirable international symbol of the USA. I feel at this time in our history it wouldn't hurt to re-identify ourselves in the USA with the self-reliant, stick-by-your-guns, protector values. Good western films seem to not be the vogue anymore... there were so many of them in the past... WHY NOT NOW??? We need more down to earth westerns; movies, tv, etc. It has been shown that the western TV or Movie garners LOTS of viewers.. so let's see some more being made. There are lots of books to write scripts from, the main one being Louis L'Amour; not to mention the great Southwest detective type novels from Tony Hillerman which would be right in the modern genre for todays "mystery-murder-detective" type of entertainment which is so popular; i.e. CSI for example. Westerns offer almost everything I like about movies-adventure,romance, scenery, the never ending battle of good vs. evil in each person,as well as between individuals. There was (and still is) such a diverse population in the West that there can be something for everyone.Different films can be made to appeal to all age groups.Several historical periods are appropriate to the Western genre- including contemporary.PS- Thank you for doing this campaign.

Please, please bring back the great westerns that most of us grew up with. The shows of today ie. reality shows are junk and most of the shows today, our children can not even watch. Western movies and tv shows are fit for the whole family. I LOVE SAM ELLIOTT, and he bring the western front to life and makes us all remember when life was harder yet safer. We all need some relaxing movies to watch after all the bad stuff the world is going through now. Families need good down to earth movies and westerns are the only way to go. It gives a history for our children. The qualifing word is quality! Yes, to sell you need action, thrills, etc., etc. and the the "old time" west had all of that in spades. The love of horses, strong adventurous men. Women who went out and fought for what they believed in way before being liberated. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. What a grand saga to tell.

A good quality western has everything that all of these movies made today don't have- real American guts. This country was founded on it. No where else is it more prevalent than a good Western. In times like these , where the very moral fabric of our society is tested every day , we need the heros of the old west. The story of good vs evil personifies itself throughout the history of the old west. We need more people like Will Rogers to serve as role models for our children. In a society that is becoming based on how much money you make , instead of whether you stand for right or wrong , it would be nice to see a western made which glamorizes the hard-working , simple cowboy....instead of a race , creed or religios group....or worse a bunch of thugs.

THE AMERICAN WESTERN DEPICTS THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY AND THE WEST. IT GIVES OUR CHILDREN SOME IDEA OF WHAT IT MEANS TO LIVE BY A CODE OF HONOR. IT REMINDS US OF WHAT IT MEANS TO LIVE BY YOUR WORD. THE WESTERN CLEARLY DEFINES RIGHT FROM WRONG AND GIVES US TRUE HEROES. SO MANY TRUE STORIES COULD BE TOLD BY THE WESTERN MOVIE THAT THE HOLLYWOOD WOULD NEVER LACK FOR MATERIAL AND THERE ARE STILL MILLIONS OF US WHO WOULD GO TO THE MOVIES MUCH MORE THAN WE DO IF THERE WHERE GOOD FAMILY ORIENTED FILMS TO WATCH. YOU DON'T NEED SEX NUDITY AND VULGAR LANGUAGE TO TELL A GOOD STORY, AND ISN'T THAT WHAT A MOVIE IS SUPPOSED TO DO?

The WHY is a no brainer really. I am a rancher and the romance of the West has sold a million books, movies , horses and Lord knows what all. It is our "roots" if you will. The western is entaining without the loud abusive noise of movies today and hopefully that good conquers all. Look at the movies like "Lonesome Dove" and learn. I think it takes a "good" (screen)writer to come up with a western. maybe that is part of the problem. Today's trash is easier to produce.

Common sense has been lost or thrown away and we have sadly reached the ultimate in push-button technology. A true western like Crossfire Trail, for example can help, I hope, not only our current generation but those recently past and those yet to come with a better under- standing of what those who came before went through to make all of the bush-buttonology possible. Maybe common sense will return too! I hope so. We need it badly.

Most western movies and TV shows simply were a great format for good storytelling. No amount of "action" in a film can ever replace a good story. People can relate to the conflicts in Western stories: man VS man; man VS nature; and man VS himself. All of our classic books had these themes and that's why they endure. Bring back the Westerns!

My husband and I farm/ranch and enjoy watching movies or programs about the life we live and love. While high-tech movies are entertaining, we really can't get "into" them. We feel it is important for those un- fortunate to live in big cities to get a feel for the "good life"! Yes, we have hard times and are never blessed with unlimited spending capital but quiet, smog-free air, great neighbors, and often breath-taking scenery more than make up for it. The feel of a good horse between your knees is heaven on earth and an experience I love to share even if only on the screen. I was raised in Las Vegas, Nevada---grew up a cowgirl and now live in the east...visiting home Nevada when I can. Things keep changing---but the past needs to be preserved and cherished. Westerns also depict the importance of the horse. I would love a western that features that point. We need to remember days without cell phones to appreciate how lucky we are to live in a modern world built on the courage and vision of strong men and women. Being part Apache, I also would appreciate westerns that reflect the Native American history--the good and the bad. Westerns touch a part of our hearts that nothing else can. We can sit behind our desks and dream of John Wayne saving us...of Sam Elliott and his gentle strength...Clint Eastwood the handsome hero...and....I miss Roy and Gene singing over campfires....we need the western.

The classic Westerns gave us people of character. You always new who the "good guys" and the "bad guys" were. They typically depicted a story about the growth of our country and the hardships that the men and women faced. Two GREAT examples: The Searchers and Red River (gee...both starring John Wayne!! What a coincidence!). How about movies based upon actual history? Try "Tombstone" The list can go on and on. ...in our opinion, there's nothing else really worth watching. I mean how many special effects movies do you really want to watch over and over again? Give me Hoppy, Roy, Gene and the Duke any time!!!

It is something else to watch other than the usual new style of movies. They provide a look at our country's history that seems to have appeal to all countries for some reason. It causes admiration of a part of our past which is not easy to duplicate in any culture.

I think that there should be more Westerns made, because that is how we started. The United States didn't start civilized. It was the cowboys and cowgirls that saved the west. We need to support the country-living people. They are just as civilized as any other kind of people. Thank you for taking the time to read this. It matters a great deal for younger generations to see "How the West Was Won." May god bless you!

I beleive that westerns produce good and real role models for todays youth. I looked up to people like John Wayne, kids nowadays don't have John Waynes. Kids should look up to hard working people like cowboys or people like my self who is serving our great counrty in the service, not sports stars who complain about their $10 million a year jobs and go on strike.

I grew up watching western movies. They were always a representation of a time that I wish I had lived in. The western is an entertaining way of letting people know that the world hasn't always been the way it is now. I, personally, don't watch a movie to see things I can see on the evening news. Westerns are a great way to escape. I believe they are a lot better for our young people to watch.

I have been a western fan since the old Johnny Mac Brown days.....More recently I'm Sam Elliott's, Tom Selleck's, and the late Richard Farnsworth's most devoted and avid fan........Since all of these fine actors have devoted their willingness to promote the western movie genre....why does the world have to wait a year at a time for great western movies....All the drama and plight of the human spirit are in these master pieces....Let me be an advisor to the Hollywood moguls and enlist those experts to bring back even bigger epics.

As so many others have done, I grew up with Roy, Gene, John Wayne and all the other "good guys". Their movies were examples of morality, honor, respect, and consideration. The movies from that era gave some history and although not always historically correct they were entertaining. We owe our young people (and old ones too!) good quality, moral entertainment. There is way too much violence and immorality in today's movies. PLEASE Hollywood--show us good decent Western movies and we will show you our dollars!

It is reminiscent of a time when we were a self reliant people, yet in order to survive, we were still dependent on each other in many ways. Good morals were valued. Times were physically harder, yet less complicated. Choices were easier to make--not many "gray" areas. These things are still valued today, yet we can only live them through Westerns.

Because it reminds us of what our forefathers went through to "tame the west" and how "men were really men" and knew how to be real partners with their spouses to make ends meet. Boy, do I miss John Wayne but I'm thankful we have new "cowboys" in Tom Selleck & Sam Elliott.

Each morning when I get up, I have a chance, and privilege to be a part of the West and the life of a Cowboy. The brand (Diamond-Bar) has been in my family for almost 100 years. I pastor two small churches in Central Texas. In an area where cattle, sheep and goats abound. I serve communties where the people work hard and stay to themselves, and where a hand-shake is as good as anything on paper. God is always a part of their lives. The movies of yesteryear show the dedication and fortitude of people who carved a life out of nothing. Look at most people today, lost, confused and out of sorts. Movies about the western life give many a great sense of history in this country and at least for me a great sense of pride. Movies about honesty, and intregrity, and pride should and must continue. Many who have never had the chance to know Cowboys have lost a great oppurtunity. Study our History and see how much was and continues to be completed by the people who dedicate their lives to the land. Continue to make the Movies, how else will we learn.

"Good Quality" Western Movies seem to last a lifetime when other movies come and go and are soon forgotten. Movies like Shane, The Searchers, Cowboys, Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid and many others seem to endure generation after generation and are seen by countless viewers worldwide over and over again. Western Movies seem to satisfy an undeniable inner craving to link us with our past and help us better understand our "western heritage" and the roles our ansestors had in making this great country what it is today! "Westerns" are unique and a trademark of what makes this country great! BRING UM BACK!! We need them, especially in this day and time!

I grew up on weterns and miss them even the the poor quality old black and whites! I know that the reality of the wild west and cowboys was always HollyWoods spin on it,However;I much rather see a six shooter fire 12 shots than a semi/reality machine gun fire and not hit anything. Please bring back The Westerns!

There is entirely too much violent trash being produced for no sensible reason by Hollywwod today. The settling of this nation and the expansion of the west was not without violence of it's own, however. The production of true to life, quality western films will cause our young people to stop and think about the hardships their forebearers endured to give us the prosperity we enjoy today. If only one youngster makes a change for the better then it's worth it.

We need more western movies, cause I miss John Wayne, Clint Eastwood & Roy Rogers. Plus I enjoy watching how this nation was formed by the people who formed it. We need to constantly reinforce our younger generations about the good and the bad that happened to people in thier travels west.

More quality Western shows are in order. I love the whole idea of the Western genre, which spawned modern Hollywood itself. There is nothing better than a good Western movie. Perhaps now is a good time for a production company to consider capitalizing in the box office with a solid Western.

Half the present day population grew up watching westerns-and we love them. Re-runs are great-we watch them dozens of times. It is my firm belief that the present day westerns of Sam Elliott & Tom Selleck are the saving grace of the genre. Please --- somehow ---find a way to produce more films of this excellent quality. The western is not dead---the studio braintrust is!!! Thank you for giving me a place to sound off.

Anyone born in the 60's or earlier grew up on western movies and T.V. shows. They always showed a sense of values, good over evil, beautiful scenery, great horses----need I go on? A huge part of our population is now in that age group. There is always an interest in the past and the 'old west' is one of the most colorful eras. Thank you.

The spirt of the west has been relived in westerns. There are still people who have been raised on ranches and farms who know how life really is but moral values stay the same. Respect for women folk and standing up for whats right lived in the stories of the west. We need to see some of those same themes and values on the big screen again.
