PLEASE! PLEASE! More good movies with a Western theme. Old West or Modern Day Westerns. Hollywood uses the same plots over and over with different settings and eras. Why not Cowboy or Western settings or the Rodeo Arena ( 8 Seconds was great ). I'm tired of "Action Movies". Western theme movies can still be Murder Mysteries, Courtroom Drama, Love Stories, Comedies, Adventure, and all the other. Why do they have to be set in LA or NY. (Dallas was a hit TV series). There are Cops & Robbers in Laramie, WY, people fall in love in the Oklahoma Panhandle, there is adventure in Canon City, CO, funny things happen in Corpus Christi, TX, they have lawyers and courtrooms in Missoula, MT. Try some imagination! Every Roughneck in the Oil Patch and every Rodeo Cowboy in Wagoner County Oklahoma knows every street and neighborhood in NY and LA. It's been spoonfed to us for the as long as we've been watching TV or going to movies. If we wanted to see that much of it we would have moved there. We've seen the Skyscrapers, show us the Mountains. We've seen the Freeways, show us some Prairie. We've seen Central Park, show us a Canyon. We've seen the Mercedes, show us a Quarter Horse. I'm through whining now. Thanks for the forum.

Good old western movies are still a great hit in my home. I love the old styles and the awesome stories that show a unique part of our American history as well as being just good entertainment. And I think they sell well enough to be good for your business, too. Let's give it a try, OK?

I don't think the fact that Hollywood isn't producing westerns is the problem. The studios are going to make the kinds of movies that line their pockets with the most MONEY!! If they can't make millions of dollars in the first few days of showing, they aren't even going to consider production. I think the problem is that the American movie-going public doesn't care about westerns as much as it used to. And it may be the fact that the majority of the people who still love westerns, just don't go to the movies much anymore! Look at the incredible success of "Cross-Fire Trail", would that entire audience of several million got out of their recliners to drive to the noisy and expensive mega-movie-mall? I don't think so. If I had to invest my life savings in a western, It would be a "made for cable" movie. But I do have a suggestion for Hollywood, "do your homework". We want authenticity. Look at the fan reviews that are written all over the internet, "Ride With The Devil!" was generaly considered a "masterpiece",(there is that "authenticity"), while "Texas Rangers" was pretty much labeled "garbage". So, perhaps we can make a deal with the major motion picture studios, if they start making great westerns again, we will get out of the house and spend our money!!

Please make more western movies for those millions of us that were brought up with all the heros of the old west. I am 60 years old, but I still enjoy western movies most of all. Having been in public relations for 35 years I know that most men (& many women) enjoy the western movie best of all!

Western life as portrayed in the western movies tells of a time that will never be again. It is fulfillment for many of us who by mistake was born in the wrong time. It is indeed nostalgic but it feeds the western soul whose need is to sense and experience the vast open plains and rugged lifestyles of the past. It is something which I want my children to feel and appreciate. My heroes have always been cowboys.

The Western is the only American Film genre that we can truely call our own. It is not dead and will never be dead. Hollywood is just too concerned with the 90210 crowd to make good westerns with good stories and good actors. Cases in point: the recent films, "American Outlaws" and "Texas Rangers". Both poorly made, poorly written, poorly acted, and just not thought out. We need John Ford! There are good western stars out there that are not being utilized. Stars like Sam Elliott, Tom Selleck, Buck Taylor, Bruce Boxleitner, Kevin Costner, Brad Johnson, Terrance Knox, and Tom Berenger. There are thousands of stories out there waiting to be told that never been touched. Both Fact and Fictional! We are extremely tired of the same garbage that Hollywood has been turning out over and over again. That's why I'm looking forward to Ron Howard's upcomming movie on The Alamo. It'll be a western and with Howard at the helm, it'll be a good one! Speaking as someone who spent 25 years as an actor and have two westerns under my belt, I can tell you that Westerns are desperately needed. The time is now! Wake up Hollywood and get back in the saddle again!

As Mark Twain would probably have said: "The reports of the death of the western film have been grossly exagerated. The Old West is as American as apple pie itself. The first thing people from other countries think of when they think of America is the cowboy. It's something that doesn't grow old or go out of style. Yes, Hollywood, we've had enought car chases and teen movies--we need more westerns! When the western and the Old West are no longer relevant, I fear that then America as we now know it, will no longer be relevant.

First of all, thanks for the many quality western films over the years! The only movies I will pay to go see at the theatre are westerns (unless my wife and two daughters drag me to see something else). If I don't have a good western to watch either at the theatre or on video, then I just read books. As you might guess, then, I read a lot of books! Please make more western movies! When Hollywood does make western films, they are usually awesome! Thanks for listening....David Althouse.

With the horrible content of many of todays movies, Westerns are a great way to get back to our morals. Today we have Sam Elliot, Tom Selleck, Wilford Brimley, and others to carry on the torch from the Duke, Gene, Roy, Hoppy, and all. With so many great Spur winners and other fine western authors out there the history of the true west can be shown.

Now is the time for western movies to be reborn. It has been stated that the movies set in real time is the cause of so much violence today, but it seems crime and violence during the days of the westerns were much lower. They were always simple, slower paced than the fast paced, high tech, special effects of movies set during modern times. Some ideas would be books that have been made into audio tapes like Louis Lamour's books.

More westerns, definitely - but not like recent rubbish - even abroad we are not going to settle for the likes of American Outlaws and Texas Rangers, not when we can still go back to the greats beautifully restored on dvd. Take a leaf out of TNT's book - a good novel + talent x money = quality western entertainment. Explain to me how the likes of Buffalo Soldiers and The Virginian could be prevented from having cinema releases? There are so many novels crying out for adaptation if you are stuck for ideas, Hollywood, and I'd say you must be right now. MORE WESTERNS, NOW!

The Western is not dead. It is just taking a well earned rest while the science fiction/fantasy genres bleed it totally dry of characters and plots. yes, more westerns please. don't kids play cowboys and indians anymore. all that stuff went out with the reformative '60's and '70's. No more guns and holsters for kids, or cap pistols. Groups of people were stepping forward and pointing out injustices that were being done to their particular ethnic group. No more cowboys and indians. persay! But they make a good western every once in awhile nowadays. Forinstance, "All the Pretty Horses." I am from Massachusetts and was thoroughly convinced by Matt Damon, that kid from Mass. He convinced me that he was a midwesterner cowboy kid. Also, good movie. Come on, Steven Spielberg, Oliver Stone and YES, Bogdonovich(sp?), please make some good westerns. Find a real person character, like Ben Johnson who had a fascinating life and make a movie about him. Thanks.

Westerns are the only true American art form. They also happen to be in demand by video renters. I know, I have a video store and I keep hearing from my customers, "When are they going to make a new western?!" So I asked the people at my wholesaler the same question. With all due respect, now we're asking you. Well?

Well , finally a place to complain. Yes, i would like to see more Westerns return to t.v. and the big screen. What kind of movies they have out there now i don't got ot see -we did see Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter -exceptions. I recently saw Tombstone and I enjoyed it even if it was a bit-bloody? I belong to a local history group and no we don't do re-enactment events- we do first person interpretations of famous Texas historical persons in period costumes. Why , when they do attempt to make a modern Western don't the Hollywood types ever consult with the local history groups -like the D.A.R., the Buffalo Soldiers , Daughters of Texas and groups like mine-Texana Living History Associa.?We present history as thought these people were actually in your classroom or church and the responses we get back are amazing. I think there would be more interest in Westerns if the right people campaigned for them. Like Sam Elliott and Buck Taylor and James Arness, and others. The lack of talent in Hollywood writing is very obvious this past t.v.season.The Tick? What was their thinking when they put out that kind of show? Yes we need Westerns again -ones with quality writing like the High Chaparral, Bonanza, and Gunsmoke had . If the movies are too modern historians notice and they rant and rave for years . Me ,I still like John Wayn'e Alamo regardless of the flak it receives from my history group and other people . The music score to that movie was 90% of what made it good and regardless of what a local t.v. critic in the paper here said this weekend I thought Laurnce Harvey was fine.I grew up watching the John Wayne version and yes I realise it isn't exactly historically correct but ,SO?I believe part of the Hollywood craft of entertaining is to tell us a good story and keep it as accurate as possible. Like not showing a girl in a 1930's dress in a Western-some early John Wayne black and white did just that! You can't please all of the people all of the time but someone needs to attempt to bring back Westerns just so that [art of America's past is 'nt lost .Hum they seem to be fascinated with showung the Maffia and 1920' and 1930's mobster garbage all the time instead of Westerns. I hate it when they letter-box wide screen Westerns like How The West was Won- the greatest Western of them all- it just takes away from the scenery.Bring back our Westerns! Patricia

The"Western" is America at one of its most exciting stages of growing and forming. It is one of the watershed times that has helped to shape our morality and definition of "united" in United States of America. It is important to keep these moral values and the togetherness of our growing as a nation to show our upcoming generations of what America was, can be, is and what direction we are going. Mr. [Sam] Elliott has served us as a wonderful reminder of this time along with so many other fine actors of the Cowboy gendre. We need you. Don't stop. The Cowboy embodies the idea of freedom which is America and why we are the great nation we now must defend. Keep the cowboy alive to remind us that "Go West young man" can still be done whether it be in just our minds and hearts.

there is rodeo/cowboy film that was suppose to be released a year ago. It's called Ring of Fire, and stars some big names, Sutherland, Hannah, and Redford's son i believe. Now I have wrote to a few studios inquiring about who has this films since the studio that made it closed their doors. I have only one studio that emailed me back to let me know that is wasn't one of their. Hollywood needs to know that there are so many of us out there that enjoy these films rather than the gang banger and horror films. come on look how much attention NFR and PBR are get. Dear Sir or Ma'am, When things are changing so drastically each and every day in our world, it is sad to think of such a rich and wonderful time period as the "Old West" would die along with those changes. I grew up as a child watching westerns on t.v. and I can only hope that the media that has the means to revive this period in our history will awaken to the challenge and bring the "Old West" back to life on the big screen. Thank you.

I was born in the late 40`s and grew-up on HOPPY, ROY, THE RANGER,GENE, and a host of other hero`s. I grew-up to learn right from wrong, good from bad,yes from my parents, but more so frpm my hero`s. I can`t remember the last time I sat down to watch a good western. What happened to the day`s when nobody got killed, no blood was shed and good always beat evil. nowdays you can`t watch a movie without either sex, or a gallon of blood being shed. They wonder why when we have childern who grow up,who only want to be in gang`s. Where is the morality they used to show on our western`s, today Maybe if they showed good quality Western`s again, where a child could go see how he,or she, should be when they get older and how they should act toward`s their fellow man. Maybe if they bring back good quality western`s we can truly return to those trilling day`s of yesterday when a child could dream about growing up like his hero, instead of freddie. Now especially in these times after sept.11,we need all the hero`s we can get.

It seems to me that today more than ever, America needs heroes. And what better hero for our kids to look up to than a cowboy? They represent everything that is right with this country, strong, solid individuals with character and morals that are seldom seen today -- except in westerns. I remember the days of my youth when my heroes ranged from Matt Dillon to Daniel Boone, from James West to John Wayne, and wish to God that my son had some solid role models like them to look up to today. We eagerly await the next Sam Elliott or Tom Selleck western, but they sure dont appear often enough. And why cant TV have just one or two westerns for those of us who love them so much? How about a TV series starring Sam, Tom, and maybe the likes of Lee Majors, James Arness, Barry Corbin, Chuck Norris, and Robert Conrad? (And there have to be some good young actors out there who would be great on horseback!) America would tune in faithfully each and every week for a good western. Why do you think Walker, Texas Ranger lasted so long? Good American values and heroes. Walker didnt believe in political correctness, just righting a wrong. All Hollywood gives us today is urban trash, foul language, sex, and comedy that isnt funny. We need a western, especially in the wake of Sept. 11. As long as there are cowboys, well have heroes.

Westerns capture American history at a time when laws and values were being shaped by the people who lived them. These stories are literally stories of the edges in our past, and how those edges extended, became communities, and connected human beins to the landscape. Westerns also tell the story of the great American genocide, the mindlesss destruction of the buffalo, and the exploitation and theft of America's natural wealth. These are important stories to tell because we have so much to learn from them.

Peeeeeleeeeeze...........dump the cyber psycho trash movies and go back from whence we came. Just because Roy, Dale and Trigger are gone, doesn't mean we couldn't adapt some of today's morality to the western theme.

i have always enjoyed a good western since a small boy and still now i am not so small. i am increasingly concerned about the falling output of films in this genre. it is a fantastic and exciting time in history and should not be ignored by film makers to the degree it is.
