My husband and I really like to watch westerns. I wish there were more on TV. I like to read Louis L'amour books, and when I see one made into a movie I watch it. The combination of Tom Selleck, Sam Elliott, and Jeffrey Osterhage in westerns is great. Let's bring back more of them. My husband likes the old westerns also.

The "old west", cowboys and Indians, and the visions they conjure up, are all a vital part of what made this country the great place that it is- good and bad. There's an endless supply of subject material to make quality movies about, and a vast audience of fans hungry for those movies....bring on the westerns!

Westerns are not dead, they still are alive!" producers should think about making more western movies, those beautiful country shots, clouds, and you could just smell that country fresh air when watching westerns, would bring a very relaxing atmosphere to your soul. It was violence, but not what we watch in todays' cinema, everything seems to be fabricated with the same plot over and over again. I'd rather buy or rent these old westerns and watch them over and over again.

To whom it may concern, I think it is way time more westerns were made again!! The people who shaped this country were part of the american west!! With all that has gone on with our country it is time we return to the pride of it too!! The people that forged ahead and went west were proud to help shape this land that was the united states and the american west was part of being an american!!! Please consider how so many of us want to see more westerns made. There are many fine actresses and actors today that could do wonderful jobs in these movies. I for one am one of the many who want to see a return to the american western!!! And i am proud to be called an American too!!! As Ever, Candy Zaehringer

There is nothing like a the History of the Great American West to remind us of our roots. It's still a wild west. There are alot of stories to tell about it. There are those who are still living it today, often in the beautiful solitude of the mountains and plains. We need more westerns, we need to inspire our children with movies of those who worked hard to build their lives without the many conveninces we have and take for granted today.

Maybe it is because I'm over 70 years old, but since Hollywood has stopped making good Western movies, I no longer go to the theaters. I have been renting DVDs. After viewing the same old videos over and over, I have decided I need to become more pro-active. No more sex, no more, dionic people, I'm tired of violence....WHERE ARE THE GOOD OL' COWBOY MOVIES? Maybe they won't win awards, but there is a market out here and we would buy the DVD! And they will make money overseas, too! Come on, McMurtry isn't the only living Western writer! X M

I believe that westerns should be made. The values and history that they share with an audience make them extremely valuable to the American and worldwide public. Westerns more than any other genre reflect what it truely means to be American. Sadly, not enough get the attention they deserve, and the silly Hollywood pap they serve makes the bucks. Film makers need to sit up and listen There is an enormous audience for a good western.

Mr. Holywood Producer: If and when you start making westerns again, the kind I can take my grandkids to, without having to apologize for the language or plot, then I will start going to movies again. If you are not sure how to go about this, rent some old Randolph Scott westerns, and pay close attention while you watch them. That should tell you everything you need to know. Whatever you do, pleaee do not expect me to lay down my hard-earned dollars for the junk you are presently trying to pass of as entertainment.

Hi. I am one of the people who work in, "Hollywood North". NAFTA led to many jobs moving to the U.S. Canada lost three professional sports teams to the U.S. in this time as well. One of the few bright spots has been the film industry. Canadian crews are now considered to be among the best in the world. Please give credit to the fact that we have also earned our jobs. If it was all about money, everything would be shot in Mexico.
Editor's note: We've never been fans of NAFTA. And it's important to note that more & more films ARE being shot in Mexico. Recently Mexico proudly reported a whopping 80% increase in film productions there compared to last year! However, the editorial never once inferred that Canadian crews aren't talented or haven't earned their position within the film industry. The article was taking a pro-American stance, speakingin partto runaway productions that go to cheaper locales, and the resulting negative economical impact that has had on the equally talented American crews and family businesses that have long-served the entertainment industry here in the U.S. Sadly, many of those folks have since been forced out of business. That is why NAFTA sucks--it IS all about money & power & greed.
...But then, historically, that's what makes Hollywood "Hollywood"--be it here in the USA, north of the border, or south.

Hollywood should not forget that the western is what developed Hollywood into what it is now. It is the very anchor of that business. Especially at this time when we are at war everyone like to see the good guys going at it with the bad guys. It's un-American not to love a good western.

American was founded on the dream of the west. Stories of courage and sacrifice. Lets give the current generations of children (and adults) stories they can grow from, to learn what it took to be a westerner. To be proud of their heritage and turn to acts of honor and courage instead of futuristic violence and myhem that is more about visual effect than story. There was violence in the west. Lots of it. But it was conquered by strong men and women of vision and endurance. Lets not lose that vision. Please make more westerns.

America needs MORE quality westerns even more now than ever! I think it's about time we had some good westerns with good, casting, plots, and a little bit of humor wouldn't hurt anything either!!! I personally challenge Hollywood to come up with a western (or westerns would be even better) that is better than Tombstone and 8 Seconds. My point is that producers of movies do so with the idea of making a profit on their investment. I cannot recall a good western losing money. I'm talking good westerns here, like The Unforgiven, Lonesome Dove and the like. If money talks, producers should be looking to the wild wild west.

The American western is a lost art. In the past, the films by Gene Autry and Roy Rogers would always bring a hope and a smile to those who watched them. They were our heroes. The bad guys wore black hats and the good guys wore white. We need films that establish good moral values and not sexual concepts or foul language. The old westerns proved this and so did the later episodes oof Walker, Texas Ranger. Those episodes were by far the best and they did not concentrate on sexually explicit themes or profanity. Let's bring back the good ole westerns. They are time established proof that programing can be wholesome and prosperous.

there is a need in today's society to view our past before it is gone forever and in these times to make everyone feel good. Films of the old west do good to make everyone feel like things are good, and go along way to make everyone forget about todays problems. It reminds everyone of a simplier time in life, how many of us didn't dream of being a cowboy or living the cowboy way.I get to do it daily, but few others get to!

IT's time for another Good Western Movie and TV series. I"m sick of sitcoms. I do not watch them. sitcoms are full of sex and their cute little remarks about sex and having sex. AS far as I'm concern it has lowered our standard of living here in the U.S. AT least when I was a kid, in a western there were the good guys and the bad guys. At least there was a standard not full of cute little remarks about sex. Some say the western was full of violence, too much. Well look at the real world on our streets and in our skys. What are we doing with the bad guys now. Giving them little cute remarks about sex or are we taking care of them. Think about it.

Hello, Hollywood. It IS time for more QUALITY westerns. Put your heads together and make one. Tom Selleck makes an EXCELLENT cowboy. He "fits" the part: his size, voice, the way he carries himself. In the westerns he's been in, he's proven himself to be a competent western actor. We should use him before he's no longer able. America, especially now, could use a hero...a hero from a time that America romantizes about and adores: The American West. It's a place where people can put their cares aside. Everyone can relate to the American West. It's good for the soul. We're SOOOOO tired of the same old blood and gore of today's movies. There's no creativity in it...heck if I want to see that, all I have to do is turn on the news and I don't have to pay for that. Come on, Hollywood, do yourself a favor, put some thought and energy into something good...a true-blue American Cowboy movie...something that would make "The Duke" want to pursue. I challenge you!!!

We need more quality screenwriters to write westerns with heart and a style that is not seen today -- and stories that are aimed at baby boomers and seniors not to adolescent boys. Casting pop teen idols as Western figures is not working --just ask Miramax and the lastest failure American Outlaws. Real westerns have good stories with well developed character relationship -- not stories that try to turn gun battles into a "Boys with Guns" movie scenario with special stunts as special effects.

She'd tell me stories of what it was like growin up on the Nebraska prarie and how she got to see a Buffalo Bill wild west show. Her, her son and a few others including some of them old western stars are the reason I grew up with a little character and became a workin cowboy in the first place. As an avvid Western fan for almost all of my 48 years, growing up sitting on a hobby horse with six gun in hand while in front of the tv helping Hopalong, Roy, and the Lone Ranger. I feel it is time to get back to some real american values and good entertainment. Remember the Duke and Louis L'amore. Sam Elliott, Tom Selleck, Wilfred Brimley are all doing a great job in carrying on this tradition, if only Hollywood would back them more. It seems only Ted Turner is on the wagon.

I think it would do us all alot of good to go back to alot more traditional things these days such as the Cowboys way of life anyway a little hard work never hurt anyone, young children can learn many leason from being around animals, such as when their MOMA says NO she means NO AS SHE does not have to say it twice, but Animals can also reteach us alot about family and the true meaning of LOVE AND RESPECT AND THAT IS STILL THE cowboy way of life.God ,family,Country now and always will be the true meaning of the cowboy.

More non-fiction western movies are needed in our country right now because they would document an important part of the history of our great USA in a positive, informative and entertaining way. Children should know about these unsung western heroes. The strength, courage and hardships endured by western settlers, etc. should be shown.

Hollywood definitely needs to bring back more Westerns. I don't understand why they won't listen to the public. Western movies would be highly successful. In my area they repeat all John Wayne's western movies which goes to show that they are as popular today and they were when first made. Also another example of successful westerns are the Desperado movies made by Alex McArthur in 1987-1989. I know personally how much people enjoyed his westerns and wish they would re-air them and also allow Alex McArthur to made some new Desperado movies. It's time to WAKE UP Hollywood!!

Of COURSE we need more Western movies - this is a genre that CANNOT be overdone. Unlike the "blow 'em up" movies and "reality" programming we are all sick of seeing, the Western has so much to offer. There are so many true tales from that period in our nation's history that have yet to be told - no lack of storyline there. "Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman", "The Magnificent Seven" - these were both shows that my family AVIDLY tuned into every week. Both of these shows wove a bit of our nation's history into each week's story. Not only were the shows entertaining, they were also educational and provided a moral compass, which it seems we, as a nation, are in great need of. PLEASE, Hollywood, give us what we, YOUR public, want!!
