The Indian Wars
In Stephen F. Austin Colony: 1822-1835

This is the story of the leadership, organization, campaigns undertaken, and tactics and strategy employed in Mexican Texas by Stephen F. Austin's militia against hostile Indians and others, from 1822 to 1835. It is a story central to the survival and eventual success of his colony. No other institution can claim this distinction, and only Austin's good fortune and luck as beneficiary of a generally exceptional assemblage of original settlers, "The Old Three Hundred," can rival the militia for its contribution to the success of his colony.

Stone Song by Win Blevins

A moving and authentically detailed chronicle of the life of Crazy Horse, who, accompanied by his spirit guide hawk, became the chief who led his Sioux warriors in many of the frontier's most famous battles from 1865 to 1876, including the Battle of Little Big Horn.

In 1867, the Kiowa traveled to Medicine Lodge, Kansas, along with the Comanche, Arapaho, Apache, and Cheyenne to meet with representatives of the U.S. government and to sign peace treaties. But not all of the Kiowa agree that the peace treaty is a good thing, and tensions between them and the U.S. Army ("The Blue Jackets") are running high. So, when the army bugler disappears and White Bear, chief of the Rattle Band, finds his bugle out on the plains, the army command assumes that White Bear has killed the man to steal it. To make matters worse, the bugler's body is later found--murdered--out on the plains.

With the army set to try White Bear for murder, and the Kiowa set to declare war if he is not found innocent, Tay-bodal--a healer amongst the Kiowa--is charged by the Principal Chief to investigate and clear White Bear's name. With very little time before the army tribunal is to be held, Tay-bodal must find out the truth about the bugler--a man he doesn't know--and what might have actually happened out there on the plains.

This uniquely authoritative portable guide based on the famous bible of American herbalists, Indian Herbalogy of North America identifies and describes the uses for 125 medicinal herbs, and gives instructions for preparing herbal remedies. Line drawings throughout.

Published in 1942, this biography remains the first true depiction of the military leader of the Oglala Sioux and a vivid portrait of the Plains Indian civilization. "...a glorious tale told with beauty & power."--The New York Times.
