For the past year, 40 Below Productions Producer/Director Kirk Roos has been steadily working on a Lewis and Clark documentary entitled, Rediscover The Corps with fellow North Dakotans Clay Jenkinson and Chad Spokely. After hours of shooting footage, researching and interviews, the trio has found a home for their project. 40 Below Productions recently signed a 3-year deal with The Montana Television Network (CBS) to broadcast the on-going documentary.
Each week, the Networks six stations will enjoy a 90-second vignette from various locations across the Lewis and Clark Trail, with a first person narrative by Clay Jenkinson. At the end of each season, the viewers will be able to order a compilation video, with 30-minutes of added footage. Finally, in 2006, a full-length documentary will be available, with special emphasis on the nostalgia and excitement surrounding the 3-4 year bicentennial event.
This agreement is one of numerous broadcast deals for Rediscover The Corps. The team plans to have distribution of the project in various media including television, DVD, VHS and the Internet. Each seasons compilation video will be available at CVBS along the trail, amongst numerous other venues.
The goal of this documentary is to get a first-hand account of what the modern-day Lewis and Clark trail has to offer us, by venturing into territory other filmmakers may have overlooked. Jenkinson said of the project. He went on to say, This is the most exciting way to learn about history, by getting out there and experiencing the spirit of the location yourself.
Roos added, In 1803, when Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark on this incredible journey, he asked Meriwether to take careful notes and journals, detailing his most specific and exciting discoveries along the trail. In essence, thats the same mission we have been given. Though rather than with pen and ink, well use digital video equipment, cell-phones, high-speed cable Internet access and in-depth interviews with the descendants of the first sojourners of the American West.
