Those that havent been there,
Just couldnt ever know,
The way a real cowboy lives,
Tho some will tell you so,
They say our lifes so romantic,
Now how in the hell would they know,
When were pullin a calf in December,
And the wind chill is forty below,
Or an old cow is stuck in a bog hole,
And youre with her, plumb up to your neck,
Jerkin and pullin and tailin her up,
Now that my friend is a wreck,
Then you saddle your horse in the mornin,
And its dark as a cows insides,
Your horse dont want to cooperate,
Oh boy, do you go for a ride,
Or, a big brahmer bull has hoof rot,
And he gotta be doctored right now,
And youre twenty-two miles away from the ranch,
Its gotta be done, the best you know how,
Say youre doctorin calves in the meadow,
And theres patches of water and ice,
And your horse slips and falls upon you
I know, and it dont feel nice,
Then of course theres things youd never expect,
Your poor horse badger holes,
His body rolls over the length of your head,
And youre talkin to rabbits and moles,
Say youre drivin a nail into a shoe,
And you aint quite got it clinched,
Then your dog comes traipsin thru the barn,
Now youre bleedin because your horse flinched,
Or, an ornery old cow get on the hook,
'Cause youre tryin to doctor her calf,
So she runs you over a time or two,
And nearly tears you in half,
And then one day its rainin,
And youve got to patch some fence,
Lightnins is poppin around your ears,
Now that gets quite intense,
So you think our life is romantic?
Well let me tell you some more,
We like it because we was raised this way
For you, it would be like war,
Hell, stay up all night in a blizzard,
Nurse maidin a bunch of cows,
Then go and feed with the days first light,
Before you eat your chow,
Or, saddle up at four a.m.,
When its colder than billy blue hell,
Then ride all day thru the snow and mud,
And miss the supper bell,
So next time youve got a yearnin,
To tell about struggle and strife,
Or tell tall tails of a livin
That you never did do in your life,
Think about who may be around you,
Or someone within earshot,
They can tell within a word or two,
If youre tellin a tail or not,
Heres something you must remember,
'Cause we know whats wrong from right,
You wont hear us brag bout what weve done,
In a real cowboys life.
