PLOT:
In the spring of 1836, nearly 200 Texans men of all races who believed in the future of Texas held the fort for 13 days under siege by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, ruler of Mexico and commander of its forces. Led by three men the young, brash Col. William Travis; the violent, passionate James Bowie; and the larger-than-life living legend David Crockett the Texans and their deeds at the Alamo would pass into history as General Sam Houstons rallying cry for Texas independence and into legend for their symbolic significance.

Theatrical Release: December 25, 2003

STAUS: Post-Production

Who's in it: Viggo Mortensen, Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thornton, Emilio Echevarria, Jordi Molla

Filming Location: Texas

Director: John Lee Hancock

Screenwriters:
  John Sayles, Stephen Gaghan

Distributed by: Touchstone Pictures

Fact:
Nervous about its potential $125 million cost under the helm of Ron Howard (who then dropped the film and took actor Russell Crowe with him), Disney's Michael Eisner hired director John Lee Hancock. Revamped to suit a PG13 audience, Hancock's project completed cost: less than $90 million.
