MOVIE POLLS Index

ReadTheWest.com Poll

Entertainment Editor's Note: The poll on the right is based on a suggestion (see below) that was made by a reader on our "Hey, Hollywood!" Western movie forum.

The suggestion isn't unreasonable. In fact, movie history was recently made in Ireland when a group of independent filmmakers took their project,
Miss June,  to the Internet and  successfully got their movie funded by tapping into their "future audience" through what was marketed as "Cyber Syndicate Membership," which came with some interesting perks. To learn more about how these innovative Irish filmmakers weathered the trials and tribulations of making a feature movie via this website, visit the Miss June website.

"Hollywood needs to wake up and listen to a growing market. The blame can not all be put on Hollywood either. It's our responsibility as Western enthusiasts and lovers to vote with our money when Westerns do make their rare appearance at the Theaters. The only way that Studios will support the Genre is if it makes them money, plain and simple.

"A new place to support the Western is in the Independent Film Market. Those are the people who can take the risks to create a product that is truer and more artistically pure (not that it will always happen but the risks and consequences are fewer). I think a fund should be set up to help support and finance these smaller projects so that they can be brought up to the level to compete with what Hollywood could put out there.

"If all the fans of Westerns put in a dollar to support what they love, [a] Western Grant Fund would be well on it's way. It's time to put your money where your mouth is and support the Western wherever it may be." Eric Heisner, Burbank, CA
